stories from the faultline

Stories from the Faultline, Iris print, 40 in.x 60 in.

Issues of social history and memory were the impetus of Stories from the Faultline, a site-specific installation created for the Sheppard Art Gallery at University of Nevada, Reno.

Stories incorporates a 14 min. looped QuickTime digital video based on Chinese immigrant history researched from the areas: Reno/Sparks, Virginia City, and Carson City.

Multiple layers of video imagery – the transcontinental railroad, China Mary and other immigrant faces, Reno's Truckee Rive – are projected through hanging panels of translucent fabric, where the past and present are continuously blurred within a constantly moving collage.
